But there was a group dining in Beckta’s room with the balcony

Bobbie-Lynn and Emil’s reception was held at Beckta and I had always wanted to get a portrait of a couple in the balcony. So I asked the staff if it was possible and it was, all I had to do was wait for the guests in (I’ll call it) the balcony room to complete their dining.

So we did.

Wedding guests and staff helped move the furniture out of the way, I rigged up my backlighting strobe and moved out to the sidewalk to make a series of close-up (sharp) pictures of them just on the balcony.

Then, to get the full facade, I moved my tripod to the Elgin Street median and made long exposures of them on the balcony. Knowing that Bobbie-Lynn and Emil would be blurry in the facade pictures (who can stand absolutely motionless for 5+ seconds?). Later I brought the resulting raw images into Photoshop for post-processing and composited the variety of pictures together to create one seamless picture where Bobbie-Lynn and Emil were sharp.
