How to make Snow Angels
How to make Snow Angel Pictures
Photographer: bring a choice of lenses from 14 mm to telephoto - possibly a ladder
Angel(s): dress appropriately and be prepared to walk through deep snow
Step 1: Find a safe place with fresh snow
Step 2: Either bring a ladder or find something the photographer can stand on for height (in the above example I was standing above Hannah and Austin from the Vimy Memorial Bridge in Ottawa)
Step 3: “The Angels” walk through the snow and lay down with their heads beside each other and do flailing motions in the snow
Step 4: If a couple: kiss, look at each other and if an individual: look up to the camera and do a profile looking to the side
Step 5: Make a lot of pictures - as the action unfolds, experiment with long shutter and short shutter speeds
Step 6: Photographer can use Lightroom (or similar software) to either blow out the snow for a heavily negative space image (below) or darken the snow for a grittier image (above).
